Foreword
For as long as I can remember, I’ve shared this story in fragments.
A phone call here. A note scribbled there. But never the full arc.
This is my first time putting it all in one place. My first published writing.
The reason is simple: some journeys, no matter how personal, are meant to be shared.
My move from a comfortable life in the US to the unpredictability of India came with questions I had carried for a long time about identity, ambition, purpose, and place.
It pulled together threads from across years and continents and asked me to take them seriously.
Over time, those experiences began to cohere. What started as scattered anecdotes became a way of seeing.
A deeper understanding of why we do what we do.
Why I left when it would've been easier to stay.
Why I stayed when it would've been easier to leave.
And why I believe India holds a key to global transformation in healthcare.
This series will unfold across ten chapters.
Each one stands on its own, but together, they trace the full arc.
Some read like essays. Others like memory.
All are parts of a story I’ve never shared in full. Until now.
By the end I hope you see not just how the chapters link, but the why behind them.
It’s a story about belonging. About bridging two worlds.
About betting on an idea whose time had come.
And about what it takes to stay committed to that bet.
Thank you for reading.
And thank you for giving space to something this personal. May these chapters offer a glimpse into the fragments that, until now, lived only in the margins.
Warmly,
Shaurya
